Traffic School
If you are convicted of a moving violation and you have a clean driving record, you may be given the option to attend traffic school and remove the offense from your record. You will, however, still have to pay the traffic ticket.
Your Maryland License
In the State of Maryland, driving is considered a privilege that must be earned. You can lose your driving privileges for a number of infractions and matters as varied as failure to pay child support, addiction to drugs or alcohol, failure to pay traffic violation fines, and even racing on the highway.

MARYLAND'S POINT SYSTEM

You can lose your privilege to drive by receiving too many points on your license within a certain amount of time. Traffic violations carry points for each offense. While most moving violations are 3 points, more serious offenses carry more. Click on the topics below to view the details.

TRAFFIC SCHOOL ELECTION

If you receive a ticket for a non-criminal moving violation, and you do not hold a commercial driver license, you may elect to attend a basic driver improvement course in lieu of points on your driving record. In some cases, you may choose to attend a basic driver improvement course to receive insurance discounts. You may only make this election once every 12 months and no more than five elections in a lifetime.
